Selong Belanak is a long, shallow, sheltered arc of sand on the south coast. The gentle break makes it the island's default beginner surf beach, and the wide beach itself draws day visitors who never touch a board.

Between two worlds

It sits west of the Kuta cluster and east of the road towards Sekotong, on a coastal route that has improved steadily. Close enough to Kuta for guests to move between them, far enough to feel like a separate place with its own pace.

Beach-adjacent and back-hill land wear the same name

The flat land behind the beach and the hills rising either side are priced very differently, and both are described as Selong Belanak. Where a plot sits relative to the sand and the access road does most of the work here.

Small hospitality suits it

Surf schools, guesthouses, beach warungs and villa rentals all fit the demand pattern. As a permanent home it is quiet and beautiful but thin on services; Praya and Kuta cover what the village does not.

Setback rules apply near the beach. Ask about water supply on hill plots and confirm the access track is a written right of way. Zoning determines whether accommodation is permitted — verify it rather than assume it.
