Rinjani's eastern side, farmed rather than developed

East Lombok is the island's agricultural heartland — tobacco, rice, garlic and the terraces climbing towards the volcano. Selong is the administrative town, Labuhan Lombok the port where ferries leave for Sumbawa. Tourism exists here but has never been the main economy, and land prices reflect that.

The quiet corners people are starting to find

Sembalun sits in a highland valley on the eastern approach to Rinjani, cool enough to grow strawberries. Tetebatu offers rice terraces and waterfalls on the southern slopes. Down in the southeast, the pink-tinged sand at Tangsi draws day visitors who mostly come and go without staying.

Cheapest entry on the island, with the longest horizon

Land here costs a fraction of the west or south coast. The trade is time: infrastructure is thinner, visitor numbers are small, and there is no single anchor project pulling development this way. Buyers should be comfortable holding rather than expecting a quick market.

Homes and farmland, not holiday rentals

Residential demand is local and steady. Agricultural land is the dominant product, and productive land carries its own rules. Short-stay rental businesses are hard to justify here for now — the guests simply are not arriving in volume.

Checks that matter here

On farmland, confirm irrigation rights and whether any conversion has been approved. Ask whether the plot is inherited land and every heir has signed, because unsplit family land is common in this regency. Check road access in writing rather than by habit.
